Riding bikes with my little ones:
Cedric, my 6 year-old, got a 24 inch wheel bike with only hand brakes and gears. We did our first ride into town with each other which was beautiful and frightening all at the same time. There is a lot you have to focus on when riding a bike 4 miles, some on bike paths, some next to a busy road. I know he has the basic skills down, now he just needs the practice and I need to find my breath and call in our angles. Anytime we have learned a new skill and then must try it out in the real world we are putting ourselves in a vulnerable place, but if we do not try we never grow.
When you are out driving around or riding your bike or walking and you see someone learning, support them, move slower, give them lots of room, smile, encourage, and then try something new yourself. We all play a role in learning.
Beginners Tip:
I like to ride behind my children and close to the line so that cars coming up from behind me will see me first. Wearing your gear is important and making your child can hear your voice and respond to basic things like, move to the right side more and stop, before taking on busier roads.
